A Wyrdfissure, also known as a warp, is a supernatural phenomena in which flat surfaces become host to an interdimensional wound, breaking open and spilling its contents.
Each Wyrdfissure reacts differently to its surroundings, but most will change various elements around it. Reports of shifts in perception, and the introduction of non-Euclidean spatial phenomena, are common, though the extent of them is normally limited.
Each Wyrdfissure is characterised by a number of changes to its surroundings and the entities near it. The magnitude of change, therefore, is used to broadly classify them into 4 distinct Tiers:
Low impact Wyrdfissures are the most common, consisting of up to 80% of all known encounters[1]. They often afflict the immediate area with small changes, barely noticeable, and grow slightly stronger over time.
A rare subset of them are self-sealing, and do not require intervention.
Medium impact Wyrdfissures are the bulk of work for experienced Sealers, and represent a significant danger to individuals in their general vicinity.
Changes include shifts in spatial reasoning, illusory creatures, animation of mundane objects, and more. Often, these changes are harmless at first, but quickly grow out of control. For this reason, Tier 2s are difficult to classify.
As with Tier 3s, these Wyrdfissures lack any sort of internal consistency, and their phenomena are random and unpredictable.
High impact Wyrdfissures are extremely dangerous, consisting of long term shifts in reality, and a great potential for loss of life. They are often the most bombastic and possess highly frequent pulses, resulting in a much greater frequency and magnitude of changes.
Every known Tier 1 is tracked and reported upon daily by the managing Agency. It can take multiple teams of sealers to shut one down, and only the most cutting edge sealer technology and research is utilised to ensure success.
Due to their instability, these Wyrdfissures can quickly degrade into a Tier 0. All managing Agencies make a concerted effort to seal them before this occurs.
When a Tier 1 degrades, it transforms into a moving Wyrdfissure with a physical form. These creatures take elements of their surroundings and morph into representations of anything the Wyrdfissure has consumed.
Eidoliths are extremely dangerous, and the final stage of a Wyrdfissure. Agencies have only ever reported 2 Eidolith sightings[2].
